Rugby World Cup 2015 arrives on our shores for the first time in 24 years on September 18th, with England (ranked 4th), Wales, Scotland and Ireland (ranked 3rd) all strong contenders for the biggest prize in rugby. For fixtures and to find out more, visit the official Rugby World Cup 2015 website.
If your church is taking the opportunity to open your doors to fans and host live screenings of the big games here’s what you need to know:
All games will be shown live on ITV, meaning your venue needs to be covered by a standard TV Licence. If you don’t already have this, click here to visit the TV Licensing website.
Because any broadcast will include commercial music recordings, licence cover from PRS for Music and PPL is also required. As an agent for both PRS for Music and PPL, CCLI already license many churches, and you may already be covered. If not, you can apply to CCLI by clicking the links below or by calling our Customer Services team on 01323 436100 or emailing: email@example.com
A number of Christian organisations have produced resources to help churches and Christians make the most of the evangelistic opportunity the World Cup provides:
They have produced a menu of options including festivals with the of screening games, materials for work with children and youth in schools, the church and the community, help with guest events, a sports quiz, and how to run tag and touch rugby.
They have also produced a DVD resource pack called Game Of Life, which contains most of the resources as well as video testimonies from 10 current Christian players and two evangelistic videos. There is also an NIV Luke’s Gospel with Acts containing player testimonies. These are available now to order online.
“Rugby World Cup 2015 will have a huge impact on our nation. It is a God-given opportunity for the UK church to engage with its local community around a common theme,” said David Chawner, UK Coordinator for Engage 2015.
